Tuesday 11/02/2020

On Tuesday we were travelling with our bus from Windhoek to Swakopmund. We were happy to see some different landscapes and regions along the way before we finally arrived in Swakopmund where we’ve experienced a totally different weather with much more clouds and lower temperatures and a more maritime atmosphere with many colonial German architecture.

This morning we supported a research project about sustainability and answered a questionnaire for that. In the afternoon, all the YEEES participants presented their first bigger task about a fictional travel itinerary of an independent traveler. The presentations also dealt with our challenges and learning during the process. After all the presentations, we discussed about the image of tourism in Namibia and the missing or challenging topics there. Finally, Ali gave us an input on how he has established his NGO “OurBridge”.

Today we got to know our first case study. Sacky, the sustainability manager of Anchor Adventures, was travelling all the way from Windhoek to Swakopmund to present his organization and introduce us to their business concept. He also told us about his challenges and questions that we should focus on and develop ideas in the upcoming weeks. We got to know his used ICT solutions and how to improve them. Furthermore, we were discussing about how to implement CSR into the business plan. We had some nice inputs regarding their goals and challenges within their company and a nice critical discussion afterwards. We thank Sacky for all his work and are looking forward to work together and meet again in Swakopmund to present our ideas.

Today we got to know our second case study that we will work on. We met Nancy, the founder and CEO of Aguagreens, Namibia to learn about her unique Aquaponic start-up. She explained us a lot of useful things about her sustainable system to produce ecological food and her plants to include tourism into her business plan. We were very impressed about her project and are excited to work together and to come up with our own ideas in the upcoming weeks to improve the concept.
