Summer Camp Namibia: First Week (7/02-9/02)

In the morning finally everyone arrived at the YEEES Sustainability Camp 2020 in Windhoek and we could start with introducing each other. Everybody was talking about his/her origin, profession and motivation for the upcoming weeks. To organize our time in the camp we created different groups – each responsible for either food, transportation/schedule or social media.

08/02/2020

On day the YEES Camp participant went to University of Namibia to the first lesson which was about “Namibia:

On our first day at University of Namibia (UNAM) we were attending the lecture: Intercultural Training with Marianne Zappen-Thomson. Together we were reflecting on differences and similarities of our cultures and getting to know first impressions about the Namibian one.

In the afternoon we got a brief overview about the YEEES Project and information about the previous YEEES Camp 2019 in South Africa.

09/02/2020

On Sunday we started with the first input from our Camp xxxxx Rina and Annika about their research focus. Rina’s presentation was about sustainable tourism and Annika informed us about digitalization and ICT in tourism.

In the evening we got invited by the Southern Summer School of the UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites to attend a fashion show of the first and second year of the Faculty of Arts at UNAM. The task was to use recycled material. The second task was to combine traditional Namibian and modern fashion. Afterwards we got invited to meet the participants of the international Summer School and dining with them at the Museum of Independence of Namibia in Windhoek by enjoying a great view over the city and trying some traditional Namibian food.
